HOW THIS WORKSLaboratory levels, costs and what each step unlocks

01 Rows, steps and the Laboratory

Each row is one research, shown at the highest step your Laboratory can run. Research runs in a Laboratory, and the hull sets its level: Laboratory Lv N asks for ship level N + 2, so a level 10 hull allows Lv 8 and a ship below level 3 has no Laboratory at all. LV prints the step shown and how many steps the research has. The card lists every step with its lab level, cost and time, and switches between them without leaving the page.

02 What is hidden and why

The game data already lists Laboratory levels 9, 10 and 11 with 41 steps behind them. They stay hidden here until the game opens ship levels 11 and 12, the same limit the rooms database uses. Another 27 entries sit at lab level 99: those are disabled or backer rewards, and they are not in the game either. Nine more belong to stations and NPC ships, not to yours.

03 Costs, time and currency

Cost, research time and the lab level a step needs come straight from the game data, and so does everything in UNLOCKS. Nothing here is estimated. Most research is paid for with research points; Ship Layout, Advanced Engineering and Fleet Member Capacity are paid for with starbux, which is why their COST shows a different icon. TOTALS adds the cost and the time of the whole chain up to the step shown, so a step deep in a chain shows what reaching it takes from scratch.

04 Numbers in UNLOCKS

In the game a research step shows what you own now against the best in the chain, so the pair moves with your own research. This site knows nothing about your ship, so the pair is different here: a step shows the value of the item it unlocks and the gain over the item that item replaces. The game links those two items directly, so the gain is read from the data, not guessed from names. Where an item has nothing before it, only the value is printed.
